Box Score 2 DETROIT (5/1/18) -- The University of Detroit Mercy softball team dropped a doubleheader against #MetroSeries rival Oakland University on Tuesday afternoon.
On the day,
Savvy Ferstle and
Jordan Manno each had three hits, two RBI and scored one run and
Alyssa Lang had one hit and scored a run for the red, white and blue.Â
DETROIT MERCY 0 - OAKLAND 3
The Titans were unable to get on the board in game one of the doubleheader.Â
The Golden Grizzlies tacked on one run in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 1-0 lead, and steadily added to their lead throughout the game.Â
They added the second run in the fourth and the third run in the fifth to take a 3-0, which they were able to hold onto.
In the top of the sixth, the Titans were able to put runners on first and second with one out, but were unable to capitalize on the scoring opportunity, falling 3-0.Â
Ashley Mauser took the loss in game one, while going six innings and scattering nine hits, three earned runs, two walks and eight strikeouts.Â
DETROIT MERCY 4 - OAKLAND 8
The red, white and blue came out with a vengeance to start the game, putting up two runs in the top of the second.
Kara Vitale started the inning with a walk, which was followed by an error from Oakland's pitcher, allowing
Alyssa Lang to reach successfully.
With runners on first and second,
Sydney Pollock striped a single down the first base line, but
John Conway held Vitale at third to load the bases.
Jordan Manno stepped into the batter's box and singled up the middle, giving the Titans their first lead of the day, 2-0.
In the bottom half of the second, errors would be the downfall of the Titans, allowing the Golden Grizzlies to score five runs and take a 5-2 lead.Â
In the bottom of the third, a two run home run would make the score 7-2 in favor of Oakland.
Then, in the top of the fifth, Manno would start things off with a single, trying to spark a rally for the red, white and blue.Â
After a groundout,
Savvy Ferstle stepped into the batter's box and tattooed a home run well over the left field fence, cutting the Titans deficit to 7-4.Â
Oakland added another run in the sixth, making the score 8-4.Â
In the top of the seventh,
Elizabeth Yager led off with a double down the third base line, trying to give the Titans one last chance to find a way back into the game, but the comeback was unsuccessful.Â
The Titans dropped game two by a final score of 8-4, with
Liz Murphy going two innings, while scattering four hits, seven runs (one earned), three walks and two strikeouts.Â
Lindsay Brandon had a strong relief outing on the mound, tossing four innings and scattering five hits, one earned run, one walk and two strikeouts.Â
ON DECK
The Titans have a single game against Western Michigan University tomorrow, with first pitch set for 4 p.m. After the final non-conference match-up of the season, the Titans will head to Northern Kentucky for a crucial three game series with the Norse.
