Brian Richotte will be in his sixth year as an assistant coach with the UDM men’s and women’s track and field team in 2013-14. Richotte works primarily with the Titan throwers.
Richotte competed in the
hammer throw in the Olympic Trials in 2012 after taking two years off after the 2008 Olympic Trials. He qualified for the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the hammer throw. He recorded a USA qualifying standard mark on June 8 at the Last Chance Throwers Gala, which was hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. Richotte took first place overall with a throw of 228-2 (69.56m).
“It was a great accomplishment for Brian to get back to the USA's with a PR,” said Detroit Titan Head Coach Guy Murray. “He did a great job this year balancing a full-time job, coaching our throwers and training for his own throwing. He improved his PR and is good position to return to the Olympic Trials next year.”
Richotte was heavily involved with the development of freshman Eric Lewis during the 2010 season. Lewis qualified for the 2011 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the hammer throw under Richotte’s guidance. Lewis qualified at the Windsor Open with a throw of 184-7 (56.26m). Lewis also helped Lewis qualifty for the NCAA Hammer Throw Semifinals in 2012 as he set a UDM record of 191’ at the GVSU Last Chance. Lewis was also a back-to-back Horizon League champion (2012, 2013) and conference record holder in the weight throw. Richotte also helped Brittany Horne capture a Horizon League title in the hammer throw and qualify for the NCAA Mideast Regional in 2009.
Richotte attended Radford University from 2003-06 earning All-American accolades in the hammer in 2005 and weight in 2006 under the guidance of Corrado. He claimed four Big South titles with two in the hammer and weight as well as setting the school and conference records in both events. He was also named to the Big South Presidents Honor Roll, Dean’s List, and the National Honors Society, graduating with a degree in sociology.
After graduating from Radford, he attended the University of Oregon, where he set the school record in the weight throw with a mark of 20.86m. He won the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in the weight finishing 11th at the NCAA meet and was the Pac-10 hammer champion at 67.98m, while finishing 13th at the NCAA meet. He left the school ranked fifth on the all-time records list and was named to the NCAA All-Academic team in 2007. He also earned his masters in Educational Leadership.
After his collegiate career ended, Richotte competed for TeamXO, a club team in Oregon, and was able to qualify for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in the hammer after throwing 68.94m. He went on to finish 16th overall at the meet with a throw of 66.96m.
Currently, Richotte works for Ferguson Enterprises, Inc. as an inside sales representative.
