On a mild and sunny October evening, the Detroit Titans women's cross country team continued its season progress with a 10th-place finish at the 2008 Michigan Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships, held at Kensington Metropark in Milford.
"Overall, it was a good finish for us," said head coach Guy Murray. "Kensington is a tough course that is long and it was warm to make the day even more challenging."
The Titans totaled 219 points in the 5k race, with four runners placing in the top 50. Senior Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/GP North) was the top harrier on the day finishing 27th with a time of 20:09.
"Jen backed up her great run at Louisville with another great effort," added Murray.
Freshman Kristina Arko (Euclid, OH/Euclid) took 39th in 20:35, while sophomore Kayleigh Toombs (Byron Center, MI/Byron Center) and freshman Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) finished 43rd and 44th, respectively, clocked at 20:42.
Twenty two collegiate teams participated in the event, with over 150 collegiate runners. Grand Valley State won the overall race as well as posting the individual winner in Megan MacEratini, who crossed the finish line in 18:33.
The Titans return to action next Saturday, Oct. 18, when they run in the Falcon Invitational, hosted by Bowling Green State University.
