Philp Scores Twice in Titans' Victory Over Visiting IPFW

Box Score (in pdf)

Behind UDM freshman #Adam Philp's# (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's Catholic) two-goal effort, the Detroit Titans shut out visiting IPFW, 2-0, at Titan Field Wednesday evening for UDM's second-straight victory. Detroit improves to 4-9-1 overall, while the Mastodons fall to 2-11-2 on the year.

In the 27th minute, UDM freshman #Sam Seppo# (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) fed a 20 yard pass to Philp in stride. Philp was then able to break away from the IPFW defenders to receive the ball and then put it into the center of the net to put the score at 1-0 in favor of the Titans.

"My teammates set me up and I was able to finish both times," said Philp. "Forward is my natural position and it is good to be playing there again.

"I am looking forward for us to continue our win streak as we head into the conference tournament."

The second goal of the game came at 82:17 as UDM freshman Jon Bowman (Findlay, OH/Findlay) slotted the ball to Philp, who then beat the defender to the inside. Philp went on to knock the ball to the near post past an outstretched IPFW senior netminder, Michael Knitter, for Philp's third career goal.

Detroit junior goalkeeper #Bryan Kloss# (Fraser, MI/Bishop Foley Catholic) was in net the entire match and tallied four saves, while Knitter also collected four saves, but allowed two goals in 90 minutes of action.

The Titans outshot the Mastodons, 19-11, but IPFW had a slight 6-4 advantage on corner kicks.

This marks the first shutout for the Titans since a 4-0 win at Cleveland State on Oct. 26, 2007.

UDM will return to action on Oct. 28 when intrastate rival Oakland comes to Detroit for a 4 p.m. match-up at Titan Field.
