Horizon League Cross Country Championships Results
The University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team put forth a valiant effort at Horizon League Championships as the Titans totaled 221 points for a ninth-place finish. The 5k event was held at the campus of UW-Green Bay at the Cofrin Memorial Arboretum Trails.
"We had a disappointing race," said head coach Guy Murray. "Our lack of a front runner really hurt us and we just never got into the race."
Sophomore Kayleigh Toombs (Byron Center, MI/Byron Center) was the Titans' top finisher at the league meet for the second-straight season, ending the race in 35th place with a season's best time of 20:10. Freshman Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) took 40th in 20:19, while senior Terricita Thomas (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights) was 46th with a run of 20:32.
"Kayleigh did a nice job for us, but it wasn't enough to overcome the bad start we had," added Murray.
Rounding out the UDM scorers was senior Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/GP North) and sophomore Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe). DeFauw claimed 49th with a posted time of 20:45, while Ferrans placed 51st in 20:52.
Detroit will now get ready for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional held at Purdue University on Saturday, Nov. 15.
