Women Harriers Return From NCAA Regional

Final Results

Running on a cold and muddy course, the Detroit Titans women's cross country finished the 2008 season by placing 32nd at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, held at the Varsity Cross Country Complex in West Lafayette, IN.

“Overall, there was a lot of tough competition and tough conditions today,” said head coach Guy Murray. “But, I am pleased with our effort and finish as we ended the season on a better note.”

Sophomore Kristie Ferrans (Carleton, MI/Monroe) was Detroit's top runner on the day taking 163rd in 24:25, a new personal record as well as a 37-place improvement from last year's event.

“It was great for Kristie to end a great season on a good note,” Murray said. “She had a rough patch during the year, but we are a better team with her running at the front.”

Two other runners also placed in the top 200 in freshman Stephanie Rossman (Caledonia, MI/Caledonia) and sophomore Kayleigh Toombs (Byron Center, MI/Byron Center). Rossman ended a very successful rookie season finishing 189th with a time of 24:58, while Toombs was 195th in 25:22.

“Stephanie had a good rookie season and has a bright future ahead of her” added Murray.

Rounding out the Titan harriers were seniors Terricita Thomas (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights) and Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/GP North) and sophomore Kirstin Mooney (Stirling ON/St. Theresa Catholic). Thomas finished 202nd in 25:37, Mooney was 206th with a run of 25:58 and DeFauw clocked a 26:07 for 207th place.
