Men's Soccer Downs Northwood, 2-1, in Final Exhibition Game

The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team completed preseason play Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over visiting Northwood at Titan Field in Detroit, MI.

In the 21st minute, UDM senior Renato Susnja took a penalty kick, which was blocked by Northwood's keeper, Matt Renouf. Susnja got his own rebound and then was able to find the back of the net for the Titans first goal of the afternoon.

At 37:24, freshman Sam Seppo had a great run down the channel and was able to beat a defender on the wing. He then crossed it to freshman Kurt Uebrueck from the right side. Uebrueck was able to trap the ball and finish from about eight yards out to put the score at 2-0 in favor of Detroit.

The Timberwolves scored with about 20 minutes remaining as Art Neilsen dished out a pass to Steve Hufstader to have the scoreboard read, 2-1.

Netminder duties were split three ways for the Titans as senior Luke Paneccasio played the entire first half and collected two saves, while junior Bryan Kloss saw action for the first 24 minutes of the second stanza and did not face any shots. Freshman Paul Graf was in the remainder of the game and tallied one save, while allowing one goal for Northwood.

The Titans will open up their regular season at the Kentucky Invitational with a match-up against Evansville on Aug. 29 in Lexington, KY, at 5 p.m.
