The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team came up short in its season opener as the Titans fell by a score of 2-0 against Evansville in the opening game of the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, KY.
Freshman Sam Seppo led the Titans with three shots, two on goal, while sophomores Ken Simon and Jake Munchiando, as well as junior Nick Dreshaj each fired off one shot against the Purple Aces. Junior Bryan Kloss was in net the entire game for Detroit and tallied three saves, but allowed two goals in 90 minutes of play.
Tyler Crawford dished out a pass to Mike Luttrull who put the ball in the back right of the net to put Evansville ahead, 1-0, in the 81st minute. About seven minutes later, Crawford gave the Purple Aces a 2-0 advantage, with Luttrell and Alex Duffy each earning an assist.
Evansville outshot UDM, 17-6, and also had a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks.
The Titans will return to action when they face host-school, Kentucky, on Aug. 31 at 2:30 p.m.
