Men's Basketball Travels To Chicago State

The Titans will play seven of their next nine games on the road starting with a non-conference affair at Chicago State on Monday night. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. (EST) at the Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center.

The game will be carried over the air on WDFN-AM 1130 with the “Voice of the Titans” Matt Dery calling all the action live.

There will be no television or internet streaming of the contest as well as no live stats feed.

The Titans will look to win their first game outside of the state of Michigan in nearly two years, with the last occasion on Feb. 17, 2007, when Detroit downed Buffalo in overtime, 92-84.

ABOUT CHICAGO STATE
An independent in Division I basketball, Chicago State has won eight of its last 11 games and stands at 11-9 on the year. The Cougars are coming off a 103-63 home victory against North Carolina Central on Saturday.

CSU comes in as one of the highest scoring teams in Division I at 81.7 points per game, which includes three games on the year that they have topped 100 points and five in which they have surpassed 90.

Chicago State is led by Michigan native David Holston who is fourth in the country in scoring at 25.7 ppg. Holston can get it done anywhere on the floor as he is currently shooting 43 percent from the field (174-398), 37 percent from three (95-251) and 77 percent from the free throw line (71-92).

Benjy Taylor is in his second year as the head coach of the CSU program, where he owns an overall record of 22-26.

DETROIT VS. CHICAGO STATE
The Titans and Cougars have hooked up 13 previous times with UDM owning a 10-3 mark, including a 3-2 advantage on the road. Detroit has also won the last three meetings and downed CSU last year, 77-66, at Calihan Hall.

HELPING TITANS
UDM recorded double-digit assists for the third-straight game against Loyola, ending the contest with 13 helpers. In the last 10 games, the Titans have had seven games with 10 or more assists, compared to just three in the first eight games of the year.

SEND IT BACK
Detroit had five blocks against Loyola on Jan. 24, with five Titans recording one swat on the day. It was the fourth time this season that UDM had five or more blocks in a game, setting its season high with seven against Saint Louis on Nov. 29. Currently, UDM is sixth in the conference with 3.1 blocks per game.

WOODY TURNING ON THE OFFENSE
Junior Woody Payne had his second career 20-point game with 20 markers his last time out against Loyola. Payne tied his career high with nine field goals, actually mimicking his output shooting that he had in his first career his first career 20-point game against Youngstown State on Jan. 1, where he netted 24 points on a 9-of-11 effort from the field.
