Men's Soccer Edged in Overtime at Milwaukee, 1-0

Box Score

The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team played in its fourth overtime game of the season, but came up short as Milwaukee edged the Titans, 1-0, Sunday afternoon in a Horizon League match-up at Engelmann Field in Milwaukee.

The game-winning goal came at the 93:05 mark after Panther freshman Matthew Bewley took a shot that hit the left post. Sophomore Ross Vanosdol was there to get the rebound and his shot from about 10 yards out went into the center of the net for the lone goal of the afternoon.

In the 55th minute, sophomore Sam Seppo (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) had a chance to get the Titans on the board as he took a shot from about eight yards out, but a defender near the post headed it off the goal line for a Milwaukee team save.

With about five minutes left in regulation, the Titans had another scoring opportunity as senior Jake Munchiando (Troy, MI/Athens) was at the top of the box and dished out a pass to Seppo. He then took a hard shot but saw it go wide right about two feet.

Detroit freshman netminder Brandon Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, MI/Catholic Central) saw action the entire contest and tallied six saves, while allowing one goal. For Milwaukee, freshman John Shakon earned the win as he collected three saves.

Milwaukee (2-7-2, 1-1-2 HL) edged out the Titans (1-8-1, 0-3-0) in corner kicks, 7-5, and the Panthers ended the afternoon with a 23-14 advantage in shots.

The Titans will return to action on Tuesday when they take a break from conference play and host University at Buffalo at Titan Field. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m.
