Men’s Basketball Tripped Up At Loyola

Box Score

The UDM men's basketball team made its fourth trip of the season to Chicago on Wednesday, but a slow start proved costly as Detroit fell to Loyola, 67-41, at the Gentile Center.

Junior Eulis Stephens (Detroit, MI/Southeastern) led the Titans (7-19, 2-14 HL) with 11 points. Junior Eugene Blue (Flint, MI/Northern) and sophomore Ryan Janer (Bay City, MI/All Saints Central) had eight points apiece, while senior Michael Harrington (Country Club Hills, IL/Rich Central) added four markers and a game-high nine rebounds. Junior Woody Payne (Inkster, MI/Ypsilanti) dished out six assists and tied his career best with six steals.

Loyola (14-15, 6-11 HL) raced out to a quick 7-0 lead just two and a half minutes into the game. The Titans scored the next four, but a 19-6 run over the next 10 minutes by the Ramblers gave LU its largest lead of the first half, 26-10, as UDM eventually went into halftime down by 14, 31-17.

The Titans added a basket on their first possession of the second period to pull within 12, 31-19, but that was as close the red, white and blue would get.

Detroit will conclude its four game road trip on Saturday as the Titans fly to Nashville to face Tennessee State in a Bracket Busters match-up. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m. (EST).
