Women's Hoops Falls at Butler, 60-42

The Detroit Titans women's basketball team dropped a 60-42 decision to Butler in a Horizon League match-up Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Fieldhouse. With the loss, UDM is now 7-15 on the year (3-8 HL), while the Bulldogs improve to 14-8 overall (9-2).

With the press style defense being run by Detroit, the first half saw the lead change six times and the score tied on five occasions, including at the end of the stanza when it was knotted at 19.

Junior Heather Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) gave Detroit its first lead at 13:31 after a lay-up (8-6) and she ended the half leading the Titans with eight points. Senior Sandi Brown (Toledo, OH/Start), who poured in a game-high 16 points, helped tie the largest lead for either team in the first stanza as she hit a midrange jumper with just over three minutes remaining to put the score at 17-14.

In the second half, senior Zemora Davis (Detroit, MI/Community) tied the game at 22 (18:39) off of a pass from Brown and Hall pulled Detroit within one (25-24) after making both attempts at the line about 30 seconds later. The Titans would not get any closer to the Bulldogs the rest of the game and Butler had its largest lead of 21 after sophomore Chloe Hamilton hit a lay-up with six seconds remaining in the game (60-39). UDM freshman Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) hit a trey as time expired to have the final score read, 60-42.

Brown ended with a game-high four steals, one shy of tying her season-best, and Brown also added one block, two assists and five rebounds for the Titans. Hatter tallied a team second-best 10 points and also collected two steals in 27 minutes of play.

Sophomore Terra Burns led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while senior Lade Akande grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Detroit shot 30 percent on the afternoon (16-of-53), while Butler shot 23-of-54 from the field (43 percent). The Bulldogs had a slight 40-35 advantage on the boards, while UDM ended with 10 steals to BU's eight.

Next up for the Titans is a home contest against Milwaukee on Feb. 12, with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
