Titans Take 2-1 Win Over Milwaukee

Box Score

The Detroit Titans improved their Horizon League record to 2-1 Friday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Panthers.

Freshman Mike Pugh (Shelby Township, MI/De La Salle Collegiate) scored his first collegiate goal for the Titans to give Detroit (3-5-1, 2-1 HL) the 1-0 advantage at halftime. Sophomore Pat Lepera (Windsor, ON/St. Joseph's Catholic) was in on the assist. Pugh fired a shot from 20 yards out, beating the keeper to the bottom left corner of the net.

Junior Sam Seppo (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) scored the game winner for Detroit in the 51st minute of play. Seppo's chip shot got over the goalie giving Detroit a 2-0 lead. Junior Otieno Victor (Kisumu Nyanza, Kenya) set up the goal with a nice lob pass in the box.

The Panthers made a push late in the second half to get back into the game. Tony Maxey scored off a header off a free kick from Ross Van Osdol. Milwaukee kept the pressure on UDM until the final buzzer, but the Titans defense held up as the team picked up its third victory of the season.

Brandon Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) went the distance for UDM in the net coming away with four saves.

The game got physical in the second half as the Titans were called for 23 fouls compared to nine for the Panthers. Milwaukee also took six corner kicks, while Detroit was limited to one.

UDM will host Green Bay on Sunday at 11:00 a.m., part of a Titan soccer doubleheader with women's team scheduled to host Loyola at 1:00 p.m.
