Titans Get Past Bulls 1-0

Box Score

BUFFALO, NY -- The Detroit Titan men's soccer team earned their seventh win of the season on Tuesday night against the Buffalo Bulls. Detroit scored in the first half of play and held on through 90 minutes of rainfall to give Buffalo their first loss of the year at UB Stadium.

“The playing conditions were not favorable for either team to play a good brand of soccer tonight,” head coach Nicholas Deren explained. “It was the blue collar, hard working players that changed the game tonight.”

Sam Seppo (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) scored his sixth goal of the season in the 30th minute of play to help Detroit (7-6-2) defeat Buffalo. The Titans had the wind behind them in the first half, and they used it to their advantage. Jacob Munchiando (Troy, Mich./Athens) sent a ball high into the air that ended up carrying over everyone but the Buffalo goalkeeper. Seppo charged in from the far side of the field and was able to head the ball over the keeper giving Detroit the 1-0 win. Munchiando picked up his first assist of the season on the play.

“We defended against the wind in the second half with tremendous heart,” Deren said. The team's defensive shape paired with our goalkeeper's ability to hold onto every shot was the key to the victory tonight.”

Brandon Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, Mich./Detroit Catholic Central) played great against the Bulls. The sophomore ended the game with 11 saves.

The Titans will return to action with a Horizon League showdown against Butler on Oct. 30. The match will begin at 2:00 p.m.
