Titans Fall To Cleveland State 2-1 In Horizon League Tournament

CLEVELAND – Audric Kilroy scored two first half goals for Cleveland State sparking the 2-1 victory for the Vikings. Detroit played extremely hard in the second half and cut into the deficit just before the 57th minute of play. Despite a strong offensive attack the Titans couldn't tie the game allowing Cleveland State to advance to the semi-finals.

Ya Ya Toure (Ypsilanti, MI, Willow Run / Schoolcraft) scored his ninth goal of the season against Cleveland State. The 2010 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year scored the goal from the near side of the field off a rebound. Junior Nate Robinson (Novi, MI, Novi) got the offense started by dribbling the ball up the middle of the field. Robinson blasted a shot at the Cleveland State goalie, and Toure found the back of the net with the put back.

Cleveland State scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minute of action. Manual Conde took the corner kick from the far side of the field and sent the ball to the near side of play where Kilroy connected on the header goal.

Kilroy's second goal of the game came on a breakaway after a Detroit throw-in. John Wargo found Kilroy streaking down the far side of the field. Kilroy gave the Vikings a 2-0 advantage beating the keeper in the bottom left corner of the goal.

Each goalkeeper played well on Tuesday night.Brandon Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, MI, Detroit Catholic Central) saw a majority of the action in the first half, while Brad Stuver was under fire for Cleveland State in the second half. Waterstradt ended the game with three saves. Stuver made five of his six saves in the second half.

Detroit made some changes offensively in the second half to apply pressure on the Vikings. Seniors Jacob Munchiando (Troy, MI, Troy Athens (Oakland)) and Ken Simon (Brighton, MI, Brighton)provided a spark that got the team into attack mode. The Titans out shot Cleveland State eight to three in the second half.

The Titans end the 2010 season with an 8-9-2 overall record. They entered the Horizon League Tournament as the No. 5 seed.
