Box Score
The Detroit Titan men's soccer team defeated Schoolcraft College in their first exhibition match of the season. UDM won by the final score of 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Titan Field.
Newcomer
Kevin Gill (Sterling Heights, MI/De La Salle Collegiate) and
Otieno Victor (Kisumu Nyanza, Kenya/Kakamega) each scored a goal to lead the Titans to victory. Gill gave Detroit an early lead with an unassisted goal just over five minutes into the game. Gill broke down the Schoolcraft defense and fired at shot at goalkeeper Ian McDonald-Wilkins. McDonald-Wilkins made the initial save, but Gill put himself in the right position for the rebound and took advantage of the opportunity scoring from five yards out off the rebound.
Schoolcraft was able to tie the game in a similar fashion as Marco Lobo found the back of the net midway through the first half. Nate Hicklin earned the assist on the play.
Detroit would regain momentum less than four minutes later as
Nate Robinson (Novi, MI/Novi) connected with Victor for the game-winning goal. Robinson set up Victor with a pretty pass and a quick shot from Victor gave UDM the win.
Brandon Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) got the nod as the starting goalkeeper for the Titans. Waterstradt made three saves in 27 minutes, but left the game due to an undisclosed injury. Freshman
Anthony Shepherd (Rochester, MI/Stoney Creek) finished out the remainder of the game as the keeper. He made four saves.
The Titans will return to action this Saturday, August 28th for their final exhibition game of the preseason. Detroit will face IUPUI at Titan field. Kickoff will begin at 1:00 p.m.
