The Detroit Titans were defeated 1-0 on Wednesday night by the Bowling Green Falcons.
Anthony Shepherd got his first career start as the goalkeeper for UDM.
Neither team was able to score a goal in the first half as the score was deadlocked at 0-0 through 45 minutes of action. The game-winner came in the 61st minute of play by Max Weston.
A foul on Detroit (0-4-1) gave Bowling Green (1-1-2) a free kick on the left side of the field. Chris Jurtovski made initial contact on the free kick and sent a parallel pass to Weston who picked up his third goal of the season. Weston's shot was good in the bottom left corner of the net.
Detroit had multiple opportunities to score, but solid defense and wild shots kept the scoreboard at zero.
Moustafa Bazzi (Dearborn, MI/American Muslim Academy), and
Otieno Victor (Kisumu Nyanza, Kenya) each had shots with the Falcon keeper out of position, but a Bowling Green defender stood up to the challenge on each play allowing BG to record the 1-0 win.
Freshman goalkeeper Shepherd (Rochester, MI/Stoney Creek) made three saves in his Titan debut. Detroit's next game will be on the road against Duquesne. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18.
