Second Half Surge Gives UDM 3-2 Win Over Duquesne

Box Score

The men's soccer team faced a 2-0 deficit on Saturday night, but the Titans came back to score three unassisted goals in a 10-minute span late in the game to record a 3-2 victory at Duquesne.

Duquesne scored early in the first half, and eventually took a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute of the game before Detroit answered with three goals to record its first win of the season.

Junior Ya Ya Toure (Ypsilanti, MI/Willow Run) got the offense started by scoring his fourth goal of the season against the Dukes at 69:38. Toure was able to make a play off a corner kick to cut the lead to 2-1.

Eight minutes later, it was senior Ken Simon (Brighton, MI/Brighton) who connected on a direct kick from 20 yards out on the right side of the field, beating the keeper into the right corner of the net to tie the game.

The game-winner for the Titans came just minutes later at 79:57as junior Sam Seppo (Port Huron, MI/Port Huron) moved up the right side of the field through the Duquesne defense and fired home a shot from 15 yards out.

Both Simon and Seppo scored their first goals of the season in the come-from-behind victory.

Brandon Waterstradt (Dearborn Heights, MI/Detroit Catholic Central) made his first start of the season for the Titans at goalkeeper. The sophomore played great as he ended the night with nine saves.

The Titans will begin Horizon League action next week with a trip to Chicago to face Loyola on Sept. 24th, and against UIC on the 26th.
