Oakland Defeats Detroit 3-1

Box Score

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- The Detroit Titan men's soccer team had to battle the weather and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday night.  The rain came down hard for all 90 minutes as Oakland walked away victorious 3-1.

Two corner kicks were the difference in the first half.  Oakland (4-9-1) led 2-0 at the break and increased the lead to 3-0 early in the second half.  Moustafa Bazzi scored the lone goal of the game for Detroit (4-8-1).  Bazzi was assisted on the score by Adam Bedell.

A miscommunication between Anthony Shepherd and Tevin Wynter led to the first goal of the game. Shepherd and Wynter went back and forth, but the last pass was off the mark giving Oakland a corner kick opportunity.  The Golden Grizzlies took advantage of the miscue and grabbed a 1-0 lead.  Miche'le Lipari was on the receiving end of the corner kick, as Johnny Dreshaj got the play started to earn the assist.

Another Oakland corner kick increased the lead to 2-0 at intermission as Konner McNamara scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Jonathan Evans.

Detroit's best scoring chance in the first 45 minutes of action was provided by Kevin Gill.  Gill took a pass from Otieno Victor and blasted a shot towards the keeper, but Mitch Hildebrandt was able to get a hand on it making one of his two first half saves.

Oakland struck fast in the second half as Gavin Hoy pushed the advantage to 3-0.  After the goal head coach Nicholas Deren shook up the lineup as 23 different players saw playing time.

Anthony Shepherd never left the game as he made six saves in 90 minutes of action.  Shepherd faced 30 shots and nine corner kicks against the Grizzlies.  Detroit also made two team saves limiting Oakland to three goals.

Detroit will return to action this Saturday with a Horizon League contest against UIC.  Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
