Titans Grab Horizon League Win Over UIC

Box Score

DETROIT -- Cameron Roberts scored the game-winning goal for Detroit in the 83rd minute of action as Detroit earned a 1-0 win over UIC on Saturday afternoon.  Roberts was assisted on the goal by Nate Robinson and Pat Lepera.

Saturday's victory over the Flames marks the first Horizon League win of the season for the Titans.  Roberts walked away from Titan Field with the play of the day after a corner kick from Robinson.  Lepera received the ball off the initial kick and found Roberts in front of the net.  Roberts sent the ball home pushing Detroit's overall record to 5-8-1.  Roberts now has two goals on the season.

The end of the game got a little wild as UIC made a strong push to tie the game.  Robinson picked up his second yellow card in the 85th minute of play meaning Detroit would have to finish off the Flames a man down.  The pressure was great, but the Detroit defense held on to earn the win.  Anthony Shepherd was the keeper for the Titans.  Shepherd made three stops on the afternoon.

This was yet another physical game for Detroit as there were 23 combined fouls and nine yellow cards.  Detroit used a unique starting lineup against the Flames as many freshmen saw the field.  Matt Ybarra, Cameron Roberts, and Trevor Flynn all started the contest.

The Titans will take this momentum on the road as they have a midweek game at Green Bay on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 8:00 p.m.  Detroit will then return to Titan Field for Senior Day on Saturday Oct. 29 when they host the Butler Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m.
