YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Titans (10-4-1, 3-1 Horizon League) posted a 1-0 victory over Youngstown State (3-7-2, 0-2-1 Horizon League) Wednesday afternoon in women's soccer action. Senior Alison Suschak took a pass from her twin sister Alexandra and netted the winning goal in the 75th minute.

With the victory Detroit - the No. 10 ranked team in the Great Lakes Region - now has 10 wins in a season for the first time since 2006. It is the seventh time in the 17-year history of Detroit women's soccer that the Titans have posted 10 or more wins.

The first half saw neither team score, but each side finished with four shots. Youngstown State applied pressure right from the start forcing a shot on goal just 16 seconds into the contest. In the opening frame, the Penguins had their chances and played better than a three-win team taking the Titans out of their offensive game.

Detroit finally broke through for the lone goal at the 74:32 mark thanks to the Titan twins. Alexandra started the chance by playing the ball to Alison just outside the left side of the 18-yard box. Alison took control of the ball and put it to her feet and hammered a shot in the upper right side of the net for her second career game-winning goal and third of the season. The sisters also teamed up for a goal earlier this year at Michigan State as Alexandra set up Alison's marker.

“Our back line played great today and Alison [Suschak] was a big boost off our bench,” said women's soccer head coach Mike Lupenec. “I don't think we played really well today. We were pretty sluggish in the first half. In the second half, we came out better and created a few scoring chances and capitalized on one."

Nora Abolins made one save in goal for the Titans recording her fifth shutout of the season as the defensive back line held the opponent to 10 shots. Detroit finished with 15 shots, including 11 in the second half.

Detroit will now look ahead to a match at Loyola this Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
