DETROIT – Milwaukee opened up a 2-0 lead at halftime, but the Titans would battle back to tie the game in the second half leading to a 2-2 tie on Saturday afternoon. Detroit moves to 4-6-1 overall.
Milwaukee (5-6-1, 2-1-1) got off to a fast start to grab an early advantage. Robert Refai scored his sixth goal of the season of an assist from Jamie Bladen to start the scoring on Saturday, and Robbie Boyd increased the lead with a score off an assist from Nick Langford.
The Titans never let up as they were able to chip away at the lead after a successful penalty kick by
Nate Robinson.
Adam Bedell was the Titan fouled to create the opportunity.
With time running low in the second half it was Bedell that came up with the game-tying goal in the 80
th minute of action. Bedell was set up nicely by a cross pass from
Mike Chiandussi.
The Panthers put a scare on Detroit late in the second half as they had a shot at the buzzer to win the game. The shot sailed wide of the goal and the teams entered overtime.
Overtime has been rough on Detroit this season as they entered today's match with a record of 1-3 once extra time is added to the scoreboard. The knocked off Michigan State early in the year, but lost tough decisions to Buffalo, Wright State, and most recently Valparaiso.
Today's overtime finally played out to its entirety as each side played for a full 110 minutes. Both goalkeepers played well in today's contest. Josh Rohde made four stops for the Panthers while
Anthony Shepherd came up with a game-high seven saves for the Titans. Shepherd made one stop in the first half, three in the second. He kept busy during the overtime session as he made one save in the first overtime and two in the second.
The Titans will continue with Horizon League action next weekend when they travel to Chicago to face Loyola on Saturday, Oct. 15. Game time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
