Game highlights on HLN Postgame interview with Coach Rademacher

DETROIT – Freshman Shareta Brown (Grand Blanc, MI/Grand Blanc) posted 18 boards and 16 points and the Titans were able to hold Bowling Green to just 31% shooting, but a late Falcons' rally was just enough as Detroit was downed by BGSU, 57-49, on Tuesday night.

The game was the first women's basketball contest played on the new Dick Vitale Court at Calihan Hall.

Brown's 17 rebounds were a season high as the rookie was 5-of-11 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Junior Chanahl Putnam (Almont, MI/Almont) was in double figures for the fourth-straight game netting 10 points and coming away with three rebounds and two assists, while junior Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) had six points, 13 boards and three blocks.

Thanks to the Titan muscle down low, Detroit outrebounded Bowling Green (2-2) 56-31, including 24-8 on the offensive glass. In fact, Brown and Shayok totaled the same amount of rebounds as the entire BGSU squad.

UDM (0-4) was down by five, 47-42, with 6:43 remaining when the Titans put together another second-half rally. A free throw apiece from Putnam and junior Demeisha Fambro (Detroit, MI/Crockett Tech) started the run with Shayok adding a jumper and Brown the old fashioned three-point play to give the Titans a 49-47 lead with 3:21 left in the game.

BGSU then knotted the game at 49-all with 1:46 left as a basket by Danielle Havel ignited a 10-0 run to put the game away for the Falcons.

Senior Lauren Allen (Rochester Hills, MI/Rochester) had eight points, five rebounds and three assists on the night, while Fambro finished with four points, six boards and two steals.

Detroit led for most of the first half building as high as a 15-point lead. After Bowling Green scored the game's first basket, UDM answered with seven straight points. Detroit then had another big run going on a 17-4 spurt over an 11-minute period to take a 26-11 advantage with 3:59 left in the first.

A lot of Titans contributed in that offensive surge as Allen led the way with a pair of 3-pointers, Brown totaled five points, while Fambro, Putnam and sophomore Megan Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) all netted baskets. Defensively, the red, white and blue held BGSU to just 2-of-15 from the floor during that span with four turnovers and just 6-of-28 (21%) from the field in the first half to go up 28-19 at the break.

The Titans saw Bowling Green cut into that lead in the second stanza and the Falcons eventually took the lead, 37-35, with 13:31 left. From there, the lead exchanged hands four times with a pair of ties in the next four minutes before BGSU jumped out in front with five-straight points to take a 47-42 advantage at the 6:43 mark.

The Titans will be back in action this weekend as they participate in the University of Texas at the San Antonio Thanksgiving Classic. Detroit will face Utah out of the Pac-12 on Friday and host UTSA on Saturday. Game time for both days is set for 6:00 p.m. (EST) at the Convocation Center.
