Final Exhibition Results in 0-0 Draw

BOX SCORE

DETROIT -- The Titans hosted Toledo Sunday afternoon in the final exhibition match before opening the regular season this Friday. Each team had scoring opportunities but no goals were scored as the two played to a 0-0 draw in two halves of play.

One of the best chances for Detroit came with less than 40 seconds left in regulation. The Titans had a corner kick and junior Rebekah Dornbos (Midland, MI/Midland) placed the ball inside the 18-yard box where sophomore Abby McCollum (La Salle, MI/Monroe) got a head on the ball and directed it towards senior Lauren Roffey (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) whose point-blank header was met by the opposing goalkeeper for the save.

“It was a good physical game between two good teams. There were times we were better and at other times they were better. That back-and-forth play is going to happen when you are experimenting with players in different positions,” said head coach Mike Lupenec.

Toledo held an 8-7 overall shooting advantage including a 7-4 mark in the second half. The Rockets came out with a couple of quick shots early in the second half as each team had their offensive chances in an aggressive game from both sides.

Sophomore goaltender Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial) made three saves compared to four made by her Toledo counterpart.

The Titans will now prepare for the regular season opener this coming Friday at Central Michigan. Match time is at 4:00 p.m.
