DETROIT -- The Titans will open the home portion of the 2011 women's soccer regular season as the Eastern Michigan Eagles head to Titan Field Tuesday afternoon with match time set for 4:00 p.m. Live stats will be available to follow the game online.
Detroit (0-1-0) will play its second match of the year after dropping a close 1-0 decision Friday to a tough Central Michigan squad. Sophomore goalkeeper
Nora Abolins (Demorestville, ON/Centennial) made five saves in that affair as the Chippewas scored the only tally at 27:35 of the match.
Central Michigan has reached the NCAA Tournament the last two years and with the win Friday currently has a 25-game unbeaten streak at home making Detroit's first game of the year a difficult contest.
The Titans and Eagles have played every year since 1995 with EMU holding a 5-6-4 all-time record over Detroit. The match-ups in the last three seasons have seen the two teams score just one goal. The lone tally came in last year's contest at Eastern Michigan as
Abby McCollum (La Salle, MI/Monroe) registered an overtime marker at 4:02 of the opening extra frame giving Detroit its first win over the Eagles since 2003 as the other two contests resulted in scores of 0-0.
Eastern (0-0-1) played a road contest in Pittsburgh on Friday to begin its new season. The Eagles tied the game in the final 10 seconds of regulation to force overtime. Two extra sessions did not change the score as the final was a 2-2 draw.
After Tuesday's contest, Detroit will not play at Titan Field until Sept. 8 against Madonna making stops at IUPUI Friday, Bowling Green on Sunday, and local rival Marygrove next Wednesday. The Titans will then fly out to Reno, NV to take part in the Wolf Pack Invitational hosted by the University of Nevada.
