Brown Earns HL Co-Player Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- It was another dominating performance for super freshman Shareta Brown (Grand Blanc, MI/Grand Blanc) and the league once again took notice as the rookie was tabbed the Horizon League Co-Player of the Week on Monday.

Brown shares the award with Green Bay's senior forward Julie Wojta.

The Titan forward was simply amazing in Detroit's 76-66 road win at Loyola pouring in a game and season-high 31 points and collecting 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the year. The 31 points are the most by a player in the conference this season and she also became just the 16th player in school history to record 31 or more points in a game.

Brown was 10-of-14 from the field and 11-of-14 from the free throw line against the Ramblers, while handing out four assists and coming away with two blocks and a steal.

It was not all about that game that got Brown honored as she started the week with 13 points and nine boards at UIC, where she again connected on 50% from the field hitting five of her 10 shots.

For the week, she averaged 22.0 points and 10 rebounds, while shooting 62.5% from the field and 77.7% at the charity stripe.

She is currently tied for second in the Horizon League in double-double and is also third in scoring (15.8), field-goal percentage (55.1%) and eighth in rebounding (8.6).

It is the second time this season Brown has received the honor as she was named the Player of the Week on Dec. 5, while it is the third time this season a Titan has won the accolade as sophomore Senee Shearer (Detroit, MI/Pershing) claimed the honor on Dec. 27.

The Titans will be back in action this week as UDM hosts Milwaukee on Thursday at 7 p.m., and Co-Player of the Week Wojta and the nationally-ranked Green Bay Phoenix on Saturday at 2 p.m.
