Box Score

DETROIT (11/9/12) -- The top seeded Detroit Titans men's soccer season came to a close when it fell to Loyola, 1-0, Friday afternoon in the Horizon League Semifinals at Titan Field.

UDM (10-9) outshot the Ramblers (5-11-2) by a 13 shot margin (20-7) but Loyola's Nick Sanchez netted the game-winner in the 53rd minute to advance to the HL Championship Match where it will face Cleveland State at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday at Titan Field.

The Titans threatened early when Moustafa Bazzi sent a free kick into the box that was grabbed by Loyola's keeper, Peter McKeown.  In the 25th minute, Kevin Pinkos took a corner that sailed through the box and Pat Lepera headed the ball towards the goal but McKeown grabbed it to keep the Titans off the board.

Loyola's McKeown was issued a yellow card just outside the Rambler's own penalty area in the 42nd minute.  Bedell took the free kick but it went just over the crossbar and the two teams went into the half scoreless.

The Titan's defensive line stood strong throughout the game, clearing crosses and blocking shots and the offense was able to counter and create scoring opportunities.  After Detroit was awarded a free kick in their offensive zone at the 66:39 mark, freshman Matt Harkema shot a low ball that made it through the legs of the defenders but McKeown was there on his knees to make the save.

UDM didn't go quietly with five shots in the final 17:52.  In the 73rd minute Pinkos served a ball into Loyola's penalty box from the right wing and Bedell was able to get a shot off that was saved.  Mike Pugh gathered the rebound and got a shot off but it was steered wide by the Ramblers' defense.

Pinkos sent another ball into the box that Bedell was able to get a head on but it went right into McKeown's waiting arms.  Bedell fired another ball on net in the 85th minute but once again McKeown was there and stood on his head to make another save.

Bedell recorded 10 shots and six shots on goal while Harkema shot three times with one being on net. UDM held a 9-5 edge in corners and held an 11-3 shot advantage in the second half, but it could not bury the equalizer.
