DAYTON, Ohio -- It was an offensive game all around with seven players in double figures, but a second-half Titan comeback fell short as Detroit dropped a 91-82 decision at Wright State on Thursday. The game was the 1,000 in the history of the Titan program.

The loss ends Detroit's five-game winning streak as the Titans now stand at 14-12, 10-4 in the Horizon League, where they still own a tiebreaker over Wright State for second place due to its win at Green Bay. WSU improved to 17-9, 10-4 in the HL.

Freshman Shareta Brown (Pontiac, MI/Grand Blanc) had 26 points and a game and career-high eight assists to lead Detroit, while sophomore Senee Shearer (Detroit, MI/Pershing) tallied 19 tying her career-high for the third time this season with five three's, while grabbing a career-best seven rebounds. Kim Demmings had a game-high 34 for WSU and Molly Fox had 31 points and seven rebounds.

Detroit was down by eight, 73-65, with 5:44 left when it cut a one-time 14-point second-half deficit down to two with three minutes remaining. Brown scored five-straight points to get the red, white and blue within three, 73-70, at the 4:33 mark.

After a WSU free throw, Shearer nailed a basket and Detroit was down by two, 74-72, inside four minutes. Wright State then hit two free throws, but senior Jalesa Jones (Detroit, MI/Pershing) went strong to the rim for a layup and the Titans once again trailed by just a basket, 76-74, with 3:07 left.

Wright State then scored eight straight to go back up by double digits and UDM would not get closer than seven the rest of the way.

Jones ended the game with 13 points and five assists and is now just six assists shy of tying Mary Lillie's (1978-82) school record 486. Junior Chanahl Putnam (Almont, MI/Almont) netted 12 points on four 3-pointers and grabbed five rebounds in the contest.

The Titans shot over 43% from the field with nine 3-pointers, while turning the ball over a season-low nine times.

The Titans trailed by 14, 50-36, just three minutes into the second half before they went on their initial run to get back in the game. Jones went inside for a layup and the next time down the floor, Brown connected on the old fashioned three-point play and Detroit was within single digits, 50-41.

WSU scored four straight to get its lead back to double digits with 13:57 left, but an 11-1 run in the next three minutes had the Titans down by just three, 55-52. Brown had six in that spurt, while Shearer added a trey and junior Yar Shayok (Ottawa, ON/Hillcrest) had a bucket.

After a WSU timeout, the Raiders regrouped and pushed their advantage to nine twice, the latest at 65-56 with less than nine minutes remaining. Detroit chipped away at that as Shearer knocked down a triple and sophomore Megan Hatter (Howell, MI/Howell) got inside for a layup to make the deficit just four, 65-61.

It was an explosive five minutes to start the game as UDM was 6-of-8 from the field and WSU hit 6-of-9 as the Titans took a 16-15 lead. Putnam began the day with back-to-back 3-pointers in that frame, while Shearer added two treys of her own.

The game turned in the first half at the 14:37 mark when Brown picked up her second foul. Playing with Brown and Hatter – who also had two fouls in the opening minutes – on the bench, the Titans offense sputtered as they connected on just one field goal in the next eight minutes. Wright State took full advantage opening a 28-20 lead with 7:35 to go in the period.

UDM cut that in half as Shayok and Hatter had back-to-back layups, but the Raiders ran their lead to as many as 12, 42-30, before a Shearer jumper sent the Titans into the locker room down by 10, 42-32.

The Titans will have this weekend off before playing the final four games of the regular season starting with a pair of home games as Cleveland State visits Calihan Hall on Thursday. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. For ticket information, go to DetroitTitans.com/TIX or call 313-993-1700.
