DETROIT (8/19/2012) -- The annual men's soccer alumni match had a quality turnout at Titan Field Sunday afternoon as the 2012 Titans defeated the alumni by a score of 6-1 as alumni and the 2012 Titans gathered for a day for a little fun on the UDM campus.
With
Anthony Santilli ('01) in net for the alumni team, junior
Adam Bedell scored the first goal of the game being awarded a penalty kick and making no mistake. Bedell had Santilli diving to the right and he shot left to give the 2012 Titans an early lead.
It did not take long for the Alums to respond as George Kithas ('03) scored the equalizer from just outside the 18-yard box off a cross from Aaron Byrd ('02).
After the half, the 2012 Titans came out in control proving too much for the alumni squad. The tie was broken as
Cameron Roberts passed the ball to an open
Matt Ybarra who buried it in the upper right corner to take the 2-1 lead.
Jesus Ginez headed in a cross from
Vicente Jaramillo and
Jon Bowman scored off a
Mike Pugh pass to put the game at 4-1 for this year's varsity team.
Ginez notched his second goal of the game off a pass from
Trevor Flynn and Roberts capped off the scoring with a goal from a
Jon Bowman cross.
Notable alumni that were in attendance were
Ottieno Victor ('12), Ablaye Camara ('99) and also current men's soccer head coach, Nicholas Deren ('99) who laced them up to take part in the day's activities.
Following the alumni game, the alumni team went out to dinner and look back at the good old days at UDM.
The Titans will open regular season play this Friday when they travel to IUPUI in Indianapolis for a contest at 7:30 p.m. Detroit will open home play with a match against IPFW on Sunday August 26 at 1:00 p.m.
