The Chips Were Against UDM
The Titans are coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Central Michigan in the season opener on Friday in Detroit. The Chippewas scored at the 87:46 mark and held on for a 1-0 lead to defeat the Titans. It was the second straight year that UDM and CMU faced each other in their respective season openers and the second straight year that the final result was 1-0 in favor of Central Michigan.

The Golden Griffins
Canisius will head to the motor city for an afternoon match-up on Monday. The Golden Griffins started the season on Friday hosting Northern Kentucky. Canisius fell 2-0 in that decision as NKU held a 14-7 shooting advantage with goals in the 42nd and 72nd minute. In the MAAC Coaches Preseason Poll, Canisius was selected to finish in a tie with Iona for sixth place. Last season, the Golden Griffins went 8-7-4 overall including a 3-3-3 conference record. This year's team loses nine letterwinners including six starters.

Buffalo, the Home of the Chicken Wing
The original birthplace of the chicken wing in 1964, Detroit has played other teams from the Buffalo area but this will be the first ever meeting between Canisius and UDM in women's soccer. The Titans have matched up against the University at Buffalo (Detroit is 1-1 all-time), Niagara (Detroit is 5-2-1 all-time), and St. Bonaventure (Detroit is 1-1 all-time). The last Titan contest against a team from the Western New York area came back on 9/14/07 against Niagara that saw the Purple Eagles earn a 2-0 road victory in Detroit.

NOOOOORA
Junior goalkeeper Nora Abolins helped keep the Titans in Friday afternoon's contest making eight saves in the 1-0 loss. Abolins has 15 shutouts in 37 career collegiate games placing her third all-time at UDM. Her 17 career wins are fifth all-time, just nine wins away from being in a tie for second place with Katie Fortenberry who has 26 career victories. Abolins currently holds the lowest career goals against average all-time among Detroit goaltenders sitting at 1.06.

McNichols Matchup
The Titans will host nearby Marygrove on Friday to conclude a three-game home stand to start the 2012 season. Friday's game at 3:00 p.m. marks the last time Detroit will play a home game until Sept. 16 when IUPUI heads to Titan Field for a 3:00 p.m. match.
