INDIANAPOLIS (8/24/12) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team fell to the Jaguars of IUPUI by a score of 2-0 at Michael A. Carroll Stadium as the 2012 season kicked off Friday night.
The Titans came out shooting in the first half with several opportunities as
Pat Lepera shot a ball that was saved by a leaping goalkeeper. Another chance came when
Matt Nedwicki took a free kick that was punched wide by the goalkeeper. On the ensuing corner,
Kevin Pinkos drove a ball through the 18-yard box but the game was still scoreless.
The game remained that way until the Jaguars got on the board at the 56:57 mark on a goal from Kyle Hyland. Hyland added another late in the game in the 87
th minute giving IUPUI extra insurance with a two goal lead.
Adam Bedell led the Titans with four shots on the evening.
Kevin Pinkos had three while Lepera and Nedwicki each had a pair.
Nathan Steinwascher was in goal for Detroit and made five saves on the night.
Detroit will open the home portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon as IPFW will make the trip to Titan Field for a 1:00 p.m. start. For all the information, head over to the
