IRVINE Calif. (9/2/12) - Adam Bedell scored his first goal of the season early but the University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team fell to No. 12 UC Irvine, 3-1, Sunday evening at Anteater Stadium to conclude the team's two-game West Coast swing.
Bedell scored in the eighth minute of play as
Mike Pugh earned an assist. Pugh passed the ball through the box that Bedell controlled with his chest, he then fired a shot from six yards out to beat the Anteaters goalie for an early 1-0 lead.
Detroit held onto that lead for the rest of the first half as Titan goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher made three saves to keep UC Irvine off the board.
But the Anteaters came out in the second half firing as UC Irvine scored its first goal off a rebound to tie the game just 1:39 into the half. The Anteaters then added a goal at the 64:19 mark to take their first lead of the game 2-1. UC Irivine would extend its lead with a breakaway goal in the 90th minute to make the final 3-1.
Detroit will return home to start classes on Tuesday before heading to New York on Friday to face Buffalo at 7:00 p.m.
