DETROIT (9/22/12) -- Adam Bedell scored two goals and
Matt Nedwicki added one to help the Titans stay perfect in the Horizon League with a 3-1 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field. Detroit also remained unbeaten at home on the year.
The two goals give Bedell seven on the year as he now leads the team in goals and points (16).
Kevin Pinkos added two assists to run his team high to four in that category, while
Nathan Steinwascher earned his fifth win in net as UDM extended its winning streak to three in a row. During the winning streak, Detroit has outscored its opponents 7-2.
UDM (5-4, 2-0 HL) struck quickly on the wet turf when
Kevin Pinkos crossed a free kick through the box and Nedwicki headed the ball pass the keeper to take a 1-0 lead late in the 15th minute.
Detroit kept the pressure on when Bedell found the back of the net for his sixth goal in as many games. At the 22:10 mark,
Matt Harkema and Bedell were 2-on-1 against a Viking defender when Harkema touched the ball to Bedell, who beat the keeper to take a 2-0 lead.
At the half, Detroit held a 5-2 shot advantage and the defense stood strong not allowing the Vikings to get a shot-on-goal.
UDM held the momentum coming out in the second half when it was awarded a corner in the 53rd minute. Pinkos found Bedell in the box and he headed the ball past the keeper giving the red, white and blue a 3-0 lead.
The Vikings (4-4,0-1 HL) got on the board in the 90th minute when Admir Suljevic beat Steinwascher on a penalty kick to spoil the shutout.
Detroit will take a week off before the Titans host in-state rival Oakland on Wednesday, October 3.
