Titans Fall to Green Bay at Aldo Santaga Stadium

Box Score

GREEN BAY, Wisc. (10/19/13) – The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 match on a chilly Saturday afternoon to Green Bay at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

Detroit (3-7-4, 0-4 Horizon League) started the game out pretty flat, and Green Bay (7-4-3, 2-1-1 Horizon League) was able to test Nathan Steinwascher. About midway through the match, Green Bay held a 6-1 advantage over UDM in the shot column.

After testing Steinwascher early, Green Bay's Brandon Hall was able to find the back of the net from a deflected corner kick to put the Phoenix on the scoreboard first in the 43rd minute.

At the end of the first half, Green Bay outshot the Titans 9-3, and also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

On a bizarre play during the second half, as Steinwascher was bouncing the balls after making a save on goal a Phoenix player tapped the ball before Steinwascher was able to get his hands on it again. Green Bay's AJ Patterson floated a pass to Sam Krenzien for Green Bay's second goal of the match.

After the second goal for the Phoenix, the Titans attempted to pick up the urgency. UDM was able to get multiple corners late in the match and a handful of shots, but the Green Bay keeper made some key saves that prevented Detroit from a chance at a late comeback.

UDM will travel to Ohio for a conference match against the Vikings of Cleveland State on Wednesday, Oct. 23. at 7:30 p.m. before a six day break between matches.
