LOUISVILLE, Ky. (10/5/2013) -- Three Titans etched their names on the school's top 15 list for Louisville as the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country program competed in the 12th Annual Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday, held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Overall, UDM was 18th with 475 points in the 5k Blue Division, an improvement from last year's 33rd-place effort and the best finish since the squad took fourth in 2007.
"We ran okay today," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Guy Murray. "It wasn't a fast day because of the humidity, which was hard on everyone."
Senior
Louisa Coppola once again topped the team as she was third with a time of 18:03, the best run ever by a Titan in seven years of competing at the event. The run was also just five seconds shy of her career best she posted at the National Catholic Championship two weeks ago as she has now earned a top-14 mark in all four races this year, including three times in the top three.
Senior
Ciara Curley-Poppe tied her career best for the second-straight race as she was 38th in 19:13, a run that is also the third best by a Titan harrier at Louisville.
Freshman
Devon Sutton was the third Titan to make her mark in the Bluegrass State as she claimed 65th in 19:30. Her time is now the 10th best effort for a UDM harrier at Louisville.
"Louisa ran her pace really strong," said Coach Murray. "Ciara and Devon both got out well and ran a good race in tough conditions."
Junior
Sara Taylor was 186th in 20:38, while freshman
Samantha Zakalowski took 204th in 20:49 and senior
Torrie Eger was 245th in 21:16.
The Titans will be back in action in two weeks when the red, white and blue make a trip to the Keystone State to run in the Penn State National Invitational on Oct. 18.
