DETROIT (11/16/2013) --
It was a special day inside historic Calihan Hall on Saturday as a pair of sisters went at it, but it was Michigan who came out on top, 83-63, over the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team. The game was televised live on WADL as part of the expanded Titan broadcasting package this year.

The sister rivalry was between the Ristovski sisters as Titan freshman Haleigh Ristovski played against her sister sophomore Madison from UM (2-2), with their uncle Dean Ristovski an assistant coach for Detroit. Haleigh Ristovski grabbed a season-high eight caroms and collected three assists to go with three points in the contest, while her sister had 14 for Michigan.

Senior Senee Shearer led the Titans (1-3) with 18 points, while sophomore Tayelor McCalister had a career-high 14. Junior Ellisha Crosby had 11 points and five rebounds and senior Megan Hatter added seven points and six boards.

Michigan got off to a quick start with 11-straight points to take an early 11-2 lead. UDM cut into that as senior Megan Hatter took a great pass from Shearer and cut to the rim for a basket and then the next time down the floor, Hatter was fouled, but made the basket and a free throw for the old fashioned three-point play to make it 18-9.

Detroit tried to stay in the game, but Michigan kept the offense going with a 17-9 spurt to take a 35-18 lead and eventually a 47-29 advantage at the break.

It was more of the same in the second half as UDM could not get the offense going at the same time, which led to the Wolverines opening a 26-point lead, 64-38, with 11:34 left, but the Titans did not quit going on a 9-2 spurt.

McCalister started that with a layup and then freshman Reyna Montgomery went coast-to-coast for a score. Shearer then came up with a steal that led to another McCalister drive to the rim and then Shearer added a three of her own to pull the red, white and blue within 18, 65-47.

Later on, Detroit made it a 16-point game, 70-64, as Crosby drained a three with 5:27 left and McCalister tallied her career-high 14th point on a layup to cut it to 15, 75-60, with 2:11 remaining, but that was as close as the Titans got.

McCalister and Shearer each tied for the team lead with four assists, with McCalister also pulling down a career-best six rebounds.

The Titans will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 20, as the red, white and blue head to East Lansing to face the No. 19/20 Michigan State Spartans. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., at the Breslin Center.

Game Notes:
The overall series is now tied at 12-12 between Michigan and Detroit… The game was the fourth in eight days to open up the season for the Titans… UDM lost just once last season at home… McCalister has been in double figures in all four games… Megan Galloway made her first collegiate start… Shearer now has 145 career 3-pointers, 15 away from sixth place in Titan history.
