DETROIT (5/7/13) -- Detroit men's soccer head coach Nicholas Deren has added 12 newcomers to the roster to help defend its 2012 Horizon League Regular Season Championship. Deren will add a mix of four strikers, four midfielders, and four defenders.
 
Zack Atwood (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Stevenson) hails from Stamford, Mich. where he was a striker for the Livonia Stevenson Spartans and earned two varsity letters. Atwood scored 49 goals in 59 games while playing for the Spartans. In his sophomore and junior years he was named All-Conference, All-District, All-Region and All-Observer in addition to being named All-State his junior year. Atwood played on the Crew Soccer Academy (CSA) Wolves Club team for two years and led the Wolves to the Nationals Finals Week in the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) whe the team finished third. Following that run, Atwood was named to the Players to Watch Out For USSDA after he led the country in goals. 
 
Robbie Beckwell (Shelby Twp., Mich./Henry Ford II) attended Henry Ford II High School where he earned two varsity letters as the goalie for the Falcons. He calls Shelby Township, Mich. home and he played club ball at the CSA Wolves Academy. In his sophomore year he was named Rookie of the Year in the MAC Red. In his junior year he was named Most Defensive Player and All-District Honorable Mention. His biggest thrill was playing with the Michigan Wolves when the team advanced to the USSDA finals week where he came off the bench to make two saves in a penalty shootout. Beckwell has Titan roots as his brother Chuckie is currently a senior at UDM and is a member of the club hockey team and both his parents, Chuckie and Beth, attended the University of Detroit Mercy. 
 
Tommy Bowman (Beverly Hills, Mich./Seaholm) attended Seaholm High School where he earned four varsity letters, was named All-League twice and racked up a career total of 33 goals and 19 assists for the Maples. Bowman, a 5-8 forward, was the team captain his senior year when he led the team with 15 goals and seven helpers while taking home All-League, All-District and All-State honors. In 2012 Bowman scored 13 goals and added eight assists as his team earned an OAA Blue Conference Championship. Bowman also played for the club team Vardar for three years and played with the Vardar FC Freiburg Academy for one year. 
 
Adam Clauss (Grand Haven, Mich./Spring Lake) calls Grand Haven, Mich. home and will graduate from Spring Lake High School in the spring. Clauss was a three-sport athlete in high school, earning four letters in soccer, three in basketball and two in baseball. In soccer, the 5-8 midfielder was named to the All-Conference first team four times, All-Area first team four times, and All-District first team four times. He also took home an All-State honorable mention his freshman year, All-State third teamrecognition his sophomore year, and garnered All-State first team honors his junior and senior years in addition to being named to the MHSSCA Dream Team his senior year. 
 
John D'Agostino (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Stevenson) calls Livonia, Mich. home where he was named Best Newcomer, All-Conference, All-District, All-Region, and a Division-I All-State honorable mention in 2011. In his senior year he was named a team captain and earned the Team MVP Award. He was also named All-Area, All-District, All-Conference, All-State first team, All-Observer second team honors and led his team to the District Finals. He played with the Michigan Wolves and was a team captain for three years (2011-13), leading his team to a Pacesetter Invitational Championship in 2009 and State Cup finals in 2011. 
 
Matt DeVries (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Mich. where he attended Forest Hills Eastern High School and earned four letters on the varsity soccer team. A 5-10 midfielder, he finished high school with 29 goals and 28 assists for the Hawks as a three-year captain and a three-time All-District honoree. As a junior, he was awarded the Unsung Hero Award, named All-District and was an All-Conference honorable mention. The accolades continued in his senior year as he was named All-State, All-District, All-Region and All-Conference. He finished the 2012 campaign with 21 goals and 10 assists. He played for the Grand Rapids Crew Juniors for five years, leading them to a #1 ranking in the state of Michigan and a #26 national ranking. The Crew won the 2011 Disney Showcase and returned to the finals in 2012. 
 
Ryan Goike (Shelby Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) reins from Shelby Township, Michigan and will graduate from Eisenhower High School in May. A 6-0 midfielder, Goike earned three varsity letters where he tallied a total of 42 goals and 17 assists. He scored 30 goals and six assists his senior year earning the MLive Player of the Year award, MAC Red MVP, was named to the 2012 MHSSCA Dream Team and All-State first team in 2012. He was also honored as All-District and All-Conference his senior year. He was the Eisenhower Captain and Team MVP in 2010 and was named All-District in 2011. Goike played his club soccer for Waza for a total of 12 years where he was the captain for four years.  He helped Waza to the semifinals of the Disney Championship in 2011 and 2012 and finally a championship in 2013. He also led the team to an Ohio Elite Championship in 2012.  
 
Aidan Kuhls (Kansas City, Mo./Bishop Miege) is a 5-8 attacker from Kansas City, Mo. where he attended Bishop Miege High School and earned four varsity letters for the Stags. His senior year, he led the team in scoring as the team captain and steered the Stags to a Kansas State Championship and his team ended the season ranked 15th in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He was the first soccer player at Bishop Miege to be named an NSCAA High School All-American Selection in 2012 and was named Kansas High School Player of the Year. He was twice named a Class 5A All-State first team selection and was a finalist for the Gatorade Boys Kansas Player of the Year. He was the team's leading scorer and team captain his senior year. In the 30-year history of the BMHS soccer program he is third all-time in total points (83), fourth all-time with 30 goals and fifth all-time with 23 assists. While playing for the Sporting BVSC for two years, he led them to a U17 boys Kansas State Cup Championship in 2012, an appearance in the Region II Championships in Saginaw, Mich., a second place finish in the U18 national Premier League-Midwest Developmental League Great Lakes Division and a 2012 SLSG College Showcase Championship.  
 
Tyler Moorman (Caledonia, Mich./East Kentwood) hails from Caledonia, Mich. where he attended East Kentwood High School. While playing center back for the Falcons, he led his team to a 2012 State Championship and was named All-Conference, All-Region and All-District as well as to the Michigan Dream Team.  While playing with the Grand Rapids Crew, he anchored the back line that won the 2011 Disney Showcase Championship. The Crew were State Cup Runners-Up in 2011 and 2012 and were ranked 26th in the nation as well as the top-ranked team in Michigan. Tyler received an invite to play in the 2012 Choice Hotels High School All-American Soccer game in Birmingham Ala.
 
Ryan Ruloff (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney Community) calls Pinckney, Mich. home and attended Pinckney Community High School where he earned varsity letters in both soccer and track and field. A 5-11 midfielder, he was named the Team MVP in 2010 and 2011 and was the team captain in 2011. He played with the CSA Wolves Academy for five years and helped them to a Michigan State Championship in three-consecutive years (2009, 2010, 2011).
 
Pat Smith (Livonia, Mich./Schoolcraft) is a transfer from Schoolcraft College where he was named to the Dean's List three straight semesters. Smith, a Livonia, Mich. native, earned two varsity letters as an attacker for the Livonia Stevenson Spartans and took home three letters for the track & field team. While playing for the soccer team, the Spartans were city champions in 2010 and Smith was named All-Conference, All-District, All-Area and led the team in points. He played six years of club ball with the Meteors of The Livonia City Soccer Club where he took the team to the State Cup Quarter Finals in the U17 and U18 divisions. 
 
Spencer Steinwascher (Sterling Heights, Mich./Sterling Heights Stevenson) is from Sterling Heights, Mich. where he attended Sterling Heights Stevenson High School. Steinwascher, a 5-10 defender, was a four-year letter winner for the Titans and will join his brother, goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher, on the Detroit roster. In his sophomore year, the Titans were District and Regional champions as well as the state runners-up. In 2011 he was named Best Midfielder on the team and earned All-District and All-Conference accolades. He was named team captain and Team MVP his senior year and was an All-District, All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention honoree. He played club ball for F.C. Nova and Vardar.

The Detroit Titans captured the 2012 regular reason Horizon League Championship with a record of 10-8-0 and a 6-1-0 mark in the conference.
