DETROIT (1/16/2014) --
Senior Senee Shearer became the 19th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points as she had a team-high 24 on the night, but a second-half run by UIC was the difference as UDM suffered a 83-67 setback on Thursday night at historic Calihan Hall.

Shearer got her 1,000th point in the first half as she ended the game 9-of-14 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers. She now has 1,020 points in her career. Freshman Haleigh Ristovski tallied a season-high 11 points with a season-best five assists and freshman Lizzy Connors added a season-high eight points with three rebounds and two assists.

It was bombs away early on for the Detroit (3-14, 0-4 HL) offense as they hit eight of their first 12 shots, including 4-of-8 from three, to take an early 20-12 lead.

Shearer started things off with a 3-pointer and that was followed by a trey from Ristovski and a layup by freshman Megan Galloway. On the next offensive possession, Galloway cleaned the glass and added a putback for a 10-5 Titan lead.

Galloway added another layup off a great pass from Ristovski for a 12-5 advantage and later on, back-to-back 3-pointers by junior Brie Wilcox had the Titans take a 20-12 lead at the 13:37 mark.

UIC (12-4, 1-2 HL) then went on a 10-2 run over the next three minutes to knot things up at 22-all. The two teams then traded the lead over the next six minutes with five ties in the mix, before UIC ended the half on a 7-0 run to jump out in front, 40-33.

UDM ended the first 20 minutes shooting 14-of-27 (51.9%) from the field, but due to UIC's 25-12 rebounding margin, the Flames were able to muster a 10-2 edge on second chance points.

Connors was able to get UDM within six, 42-36, off a trey early in the second half and her second 3-pointer of the game made it a seven-point contest, 48-41, with 16:25 left, but UIC then went on a 19-7 run to open the game up taking a 67-48 lead midway through the second period.

The Titans then scored six-straight points as sophomore DaVonna Bradford was then able to get inside for a bucket and that was followed by a layup from sophomore Tayelor McCalister off a Ristovski steal and then a Ristovski jumper as Detroit trailed by 13, 67-54, with 6:55 remaining.

That was as close as UDM would get with UIC running the deficit back to 19 before the 83-67 final.

Detroit shot a season-high 53.8% (28-of-52), including 56.0% (14-of-25) in the second half, but the Flames were able to control the glass 48-23. The Titan defense also forced 17 turnovers and came up with a season-best seven blocks in the contest.

Wilcox ended the game with six points, four rebounds, two assists and a career-high four blocks, while Galloway tallied eight points six boards and four steals. Meanwhile, McCalister recorded eight points, two assists and two steals.

Detroit will now hit the road for three-straight games starting with a trip to Valparaiso next Thursday, Jan. 23, with tip-off slated for 8:05 p.m., at the ARC.

Game Notes:
Detroit still leads the all-time series, 23-21… Freshman Reyna Montgomery became the latest injury casualty and with that, the Titans used their 12th different starting line-up of the year… It was Shearer's 12th 20-point game of the season… Shearer now has 190 career 3-pointers, two shy of Lindsey Pasquinzo's (2002-06) third place mark of 192… Shearer is now 13 points away from 18th place in scoring, held by Mary Lillie's (1978-82) 1,033… The Titans had seven 3-pointers after having just eight total in the last three games… The 53.8% was the highest since UDM shot the same percentage (35-of-65) against Cleveland State at home last season… The seven blocks were the most since the Titans had seven in an overtime win over Eastern Michigan on Dec. 20, 2011.
