Box Score

DETROIT (10/28/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 non-conference match Tuesday, falling to visiting Northern Kentucky University in the first meeting between the two schools.

Detroit saw its impressive 16-match unbeaten streak at Titan Field end in the defeat. The Titans (8-7-1) last loss at home prior to Tuesday's was a 2-0 defeat to Milwaukee on Sept. 27, 2012.

Northern Kentucky (8-7-3) scored the lone goal of the game in the 79th minute. NKU's leading scorer Macy Hamblin scored her seventh goal of the season as she lifted a shot from outside the box just over Detroit freshman goalkeeper Marina Manzo (Washington Township, Mich. / Romeo) and into the back of the net.

The Titans had some good looks at the goal in the second half. Junior defender Alyssa Lotito (Macomb, Mich. / Eisenhower) had a shot on goal turned away in the 74th minute by NKU goalkeeper Brooke Schocker. In the final minute of the game, sophomore Anna Mindling (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) and junior Sara Zawacki (Dearborn, Mich. / Marian) each had shots blocked in the box.

Detroit was out-shot in the contest, 16-12, and Northern Kentucky also had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.

Mindling, senior Alyssa Riley (Whitby, Ont. / Father Leo J. Austin), junior Jennifer Borawski (Northville, Mich. / Northville) and sophomore Carley Rice (Richland, Mich. / Gull Lake) all had two shots apiece during the match.

Manzo made three saves in net, while junior goalkeeper Martha Dunbar (Burlington, Ont. / Nelson) also turned away a shot in goal.

The Titans had recorded 13 shutouts total in its last 16 matches at Titan Field. Detroit had 15 wins in 16 matches with the only tie in that 16-match stretch coming in a 0-0 game against Central Michigan earlier this season.

Detroit, which has already clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championships, concludes the regular season Friday with a 3 p.m. home match against Milwaukee on Senior Day. The Titans will honor their four seniors on the field before the match.
