Box Score HighlightsDETROIT (11/8/14) – Six Titans scored in double figures as the University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team concluded its exhibition season with an impressive 98-55 win over Marygrove on Saturday at historic Calihan Hall.
Senior guard
Brandan Kearney scored a game-high 18 points, including eight-straight in the second half, while classmates
Juwan Howard Jr. and
Patrick Onwenu both recorded double-doubles. Onwenu finished with 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots, while Howard pitched in 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Junior guard
Carlton Brundidge scored 15 points with three steals, while sophomore
Jarod Williams finished with 14 points and a game-high seven assists. Freshman forward
Jaleel Hogan scored 11 points, including a thunderous dunk that brought the crowd to its feet off a pass from junior
Anton Wilson. Â Â Â
The Titans started slow and were trailing 23-19 with 7:05 left in the opening stanza, before closing the half with a 25-6 run to take a 44-29 lead into the locker room. Howard led the Titans with 14 points in the half, while Onwenu had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Detroit opened the second half with a 9-3 run to build a 53-32 lead before back-to-back runs from Brundidge and Kearney helped build a 40-point lead, 83-43 with 5:45 left in regulation. Brundidge started the run with nine-straight points, before Kearney scored eight-straight – including back-to-back three-pointers – to break the score wide open.
Detroit shot 49.4 percent (38-of-77) overall, including 56.4 percent (22-of-39) in the second half, while holding Marygrove to just 30.9 percent (21-of-68) overall. The Titans only turned the ball over eight times, while forcing 20 Mustang turnovers, which resulted in 20 points for Detroit. The Titans also recorded eight steals and five blocked shots, while dishing out 18 assists.
Detroit will tip-off its 110th season of basketball on Friday (Nov. 14) when it hosts Rochester College at historic Calihan Hall. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be televised live on Comcast 900 with the voice of the Titans
