YPSILANTI, Mich. (8/14/14)
-- The University of Detroit Mercy women's soccer team played in its final tune-up before the start of the 2014-15 regular season on Thursday, battling host and defending MAC Regular Season Champions Eastern Michigan University to a 0-0 tie at Scicluna Field.

Detroit, which was rained out after one half in its first exhibition contest at home Monday, played under clear skies Thursday at EMU and seemed to take control of the game early in the second half.

The Titans didn't record a shot on goal in the first half against the Eagles, but came out firing in the second frame, totaling three shots in the first five minutes of the second half. Overall, Detroit out-shot Eastern Michigan in the second half by a 7-2 margin. Overall for the contest, Eastern Michigan had 11 shots, while Detroit finished with seven shots.

Sophomore Anna Mindling (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) had two second-half shots to lead the Titans.

Junior Martha Dunbar (Burlington, Ont. / Nelson) and freshman Marina Manzo (Washington Twp., Mich. / Romeo) split time in net for Detroit. Dunbar turned away all three shots on goal during the first half, while Manzo recorded one save on the only shot she faced on net in the second half.

Head coach Mike Lupenec enters his 22nd season leading the Titans, which opens the regular season schedule Aug. 22 at Toledo University.
