Box Score DAYTON, Ohio (9/7/2014) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team gave up three first-half goals on Sunday as the Titans fell, 3-0, at the University of Dayton. The host Flyers earned their first win of the season in the finale of the Dayton Flyer Classic at Baujan Field.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, sophomore midfielder
Aidan Kuhls (Kansas City, Mo. / Bishop Miege) and freshman forward
Spiro Pliakos (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester) were each named to the Dayton Flyer Classic All-Tournament Team.
Dayton (1-2) scored two goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest and added another before halftime. Dayton's James Haupt scored a goal just 2:20 into the game off a corner kick. Brian Richards scored the next two goals for Dayton, scoring in the 12th minute and 32nd minute for the Flyers.
The Flyers had 17 shots on net for the game, including 10 in the first half. Detroit (1-2) recorded seven shots on goal during the match. Senior goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher (Sterling Heights, Mich. / Stevenson) made seven saves in goal for the Titans, a season-high total.
Detroit had two shots on goal on the day, one in each half. Sophomore midfielder
Adam Clauss (Grand Haven, Mich. / Spring Lake) paced the Titans with three shots total for the contest. Sophomore defender
Tyler Moorman (Caledonia, Mich. / East Kentwood) added two shots for Detroit.
Sunday's game marked the first time during the 2014 season that the Titans have allowed more than one goal. Detroit had allowed just one score in each of the first two games in a 2-1 win over Western Michigan and a 1-0 loss to Northern Kentucky.
Detroit returns to the pitch next weekend, traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada, for a tournament at UNLV. The Titans open the tournament at 7:30 p.m., Friday against Cal State Fullerton.
