DAYTON, Ohio (1/10/2015) --
Senior Ellisha Crosby had a team-high 24 points and the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team did its best to upset the defending Horizon League champions, but a strong second half by Wright State was too much in a 76-57 contest at the Nutter Center on Saturday.

Crosby – who missed the last four games with an injury – was 9-of-17 from the field with six rebounds and a pair of assists in tying her season high in scoring. Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds had 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds and sophomore Haleigh Ristovski tallied seven points and seven boards.

The Titans (5-10, 0-2 HL) – and Reynolds – set the tone early on scoring five-straight points right from the start, and after a three from WSU, Reynolds answered with a trey for an 8-3 lead.

Wright State (12-4, 1-1 HL) came right back with six-straight points to take a 9-8 lead, but the Titans surged back in front with a 9-0 run. Crosby started it with two free throws and after another triple from Reynolds, Crosby had back-to-back baskets for a 17-9 advantage with 12 minutes left.  UDM would later extend it to nine twice, the latest at 7:59, as a bucket from Crosby made it 22-13.

Detroit then had to hold off a charge from the Raiders that cut the deficit to three, but Reynolds responded twice with baskets to stop them from getting any closer. The red, white and blue would push its lead back up to nine, 33-24, with 1:16 remaining as Ristovski found senior Brie Wilcox for a jumper, and the Titans took a 35-27 lead at the break.

The Detroit defense held Wright State to 31.4 percent (11-of-35) shooting, including 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from the outside, and forced eight turnovers. Meanwhile, the Titans shot nearly 50.0 percent hitting 14-of-30 and 5-of-11 from behind the arc.

The Raiders came out soaring in the second half with a 10-0 spurt to take the lead, 37-25. Ristovski went inside for a bucket to end that and knot it at 37-all, but Wright State went back ahead with five-straight markers. Crosby made it a one possession game, 42-39, with a layup with 14:39 remaining, but the Raiders would take control from there opening a double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Freshman Darianne Seward finished with five points, four rebounds and tied her season high with a team-best five assists. Wilcox, junior DaVonna Bradford and sophomore Lizzy Connors all had two points apiece with Wilcox also collecting three boards and two steals.

Detroit will return to action on Thursday as the Titans host UIC in historic Calihan Hall. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., on Dick Vitale Court. For ticket information, click here
