Titans Earn Comeback, Overtime Win at Northeastern, 81-69

BOSTON, Mass. (1/19/2015) -- The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team out-scored Northeastern 21-9 in overtime Monday as the Titans earned an 81-69 comeback non-conference win over the Huskies.

The Titans (10-10) erased a six-point deficit with 2:47 remaining, by scoring eight of the final 10 points in regulation against the Colonial Athletic Association leader Huskies (13-6).

Freshman Paris Bass helped force overtime by tying the game, 60-60, on a dunk with 28 seconds left in regulation. Bass scored nine of the first 11 points in overtime as the Titans took a 69-62 lead. Sophomore Chris Jenkins added two free throws to give Detroit a 71-62 advantage with 1:06 remaining in the extra session.

Northeastern pulled to within five points with 54 seconds remaining, but Detroit went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the final 53 seconds and added two dunks from Jenkins to earn the double-digit victory.

Bass tallied 11 straight points between regulation and overtime for Detroit and scored a career-high-tying 19 points. Jenkins tallied his first career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Senior Juwan Howard Jr. added 16 points, while junior Anton Wilson was the fourth Titan in double figures with 11 points. Sophomore Jarod Williams added seven points and five assists for the Titans.

Detroit shot 43.3 percent from the floor for the game, while limiting Northeastern to 36.2 percent shooting and 2-of-11 shooting in overtime. Detroit made 16-of-18 free throws (88.8 percent), including 9-of-11 in overtime and the Huskies were 21-of-33 (63.6 percent) from the free throw line. The Titans also out-rebounded Northeastern, 44-40.

Detroit will return to Horizon League play as the Titans visit Cleveland State for a Friday (Jan. 23) night showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET at the Wolstein Center and will be televised live on ESPN3. The game can also be heard on 97.1 The Ticket with the voice of the Titans Dan Leach.
