DETROIT (1/22/2015) --
It was hunting season inside Calihan Hall and the Titans went looking for some bears as the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team surged past the Oakland Golden Grizzles, 73-62, on Thursday in a Metro Series battle.

Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds had a game-high 27 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists and no turnovers. Senior Ellisha Crosby netted 14 points with six boards. Sophomore Haleigh Ristovski had 11 points, seven rebounds and two assists and freshman Darianne Seward finished with 13 points and six caroms.

Detroit (7-11, 2-3 HL) erased a 10-point second-half Oakland (8-9, 2-2 HL) lead with a 12-0 run and never looked back, opening as much as a 10-point lead of its own.

UDM trailed to start the second half and was down by 10, 46-36, with 14:39 left when the Titans came to life with a 12-0 run over the next three minutes. Everyone had a role in the charge, which started with Crosby hitting an inside shot. Ristovski was then fouled and hit both her free throws and after she came up with a steal, she went inside for two more points.

Freshman Brianne Cohen then came up with a block and that started a fast-break opportunity, which ended with Reynolds locating freshman Nicole Urbanick for a jumper to get Detroit within, two, 46-44. Reynolds then had a steal and fed it to Seward, who tied it at 46-all with a layup. UDM hit the boards hard on its next offensive possession getting three offensive rebounds before Seward gave the red, white and blue a 48-46 lead with 11:52 left.

Oakland did get the lead back briefly at 49-48, but Reynolds was too much for Oakland to stop, hitting back-to-back baskets for a 52-49 advantage with 9:34 remaining.

Detroit would hold the lead the rest of the way, fending off both times the Golden Grizzlies got within one, the latest at 58-57 with 5:08 on the clock. The Titans then sealed the Metro Series triumph scoring eight-straight points in the next four minutes to open a 66-57 lead and later took a 10-point advantage, 68-58, with just over one minute left.

The Titans held Oakland to 37.5 percent from the field, including 34.3 percent in the second half. UDM forced 17 turnovers coming away with a season-high 11 steals, while shooting 81.0 percent (17-of-21) at the free throw line.

Oakland got off to a fast start in the game hitting five of its first six shots and taking an 11-3 lead nearly four minutes into the contest. UDM slowly started to chip away, but the Golden Grizzlies still had an 18-13 lead at the 12:28 mark.

That is when the Titans tied it up as Reynolds nailed a three and then found Crosby open, who swished it in for two more and an 18-18 game. The Golden Grizzles jumped back in front with a basket to make it 20-18 before both teams went cold from the field for the next four minutes until Reynolds connected on a triple to give UDM a 21-20 advantage with 6:43 left in the half.

Both teams traded the lead for the next two minutes, but Oakland would end up with a 32-27 advantage at the break.

The Titans will end their two-game homestand on Saturday as the red, white and blue host first place Green Bay. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
