Game Highlights

DETROIT (1/26/2015) --
The University of Detroit Mercy men's basketball team saw Wright State score the first eight points of the game and despite a number of rallies in the contest, the Titans were upended by the Raiders, 64-53, on Monday night at historic Calihan Hall.

The loss drops Detroit to 10-12 on the season and 3-4 in the Horizon League, while Wright State moved to 11-10, 3-4 in league play.

Anton Wilson led Detroit with 15 points. Paris Bass had seven points and a pair of blocks and Youssoupha Kane added six points, five rebounds and three steals.

The Titans were behind 8-0 and then trailed 12-2 just five minutes in when Brandan Kearney and Wilson nailed back-to-back 3-pointers. Detroit later got within three points, 13-10, with 12:02 left as Carlton Brundidge hit a pair of free throws.

WSU then took control with a 17-3 run over the next six minutes to open its largest lead of the contest, 30-13, with 6:17 remaining in the first half.

The Titans would weather that storm and go on a 14-3 run to end the half, pulling within 33-27 at the break. Detroit hit 6-of-7 from the field in that span as Wilson had five points and Kane netted all of his six points during the run.

The run continued in the second stanza as Chris Jenkins opened the frame with a triple to make it a 33-30 contest, but the Raiders then went on a 12-2 spurt to once again open a double-digit advantage, 45-32.

Detroit trimmed the deficit to nine at 45-36 and again at 56-47, and would get as close as eight points, 59-51, with 1:05 left, but the Raiders wouldn't let the red, white and blue get any closer.

Kearney finished with eight points and Juwan Howard Jr. totaled four points, four rebounds and a team-high six assists, tying his season high.

The Titans shot 40.0 percent from the field (18-of-45) and 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from the three-point line, but the Raiders shot 45.5 percent (20-of-44) with 11 of those from behind the arc.

The Titans will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 29, when Detroit hosts Youngstown State. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., on Dick Vitale Court. For ticket information, click here.
