Titans Win Third Straight as Urbanick Scores Career-Best 24

DETROIT (12/5/2015) -- Sophomore guard Nicole Urbanick scored a career-high 24 points and the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team won its third straight game in an 81-50 triumph over visiting Salem International on Saturday at Calihan Hall. Detroit improved to 3-0 on its current homestand with the victory.

The win streak is the longest for the Titans (3-4) since the 2012-13 season. Sophomore forward Brianne Cohen (Toronto, Ont. / York Memorial) added a career-high-tying 19 points and nine rebounds off the bench for Detroit, while freshman guard Lola Ristovski (Sterling Heights, Mich. / University Liggett) posted nine points, five steals, five rebounds, four blocks and three assists. It was Detroit's fourth-straight game scoring 70 or more points.

Detroit converted on its first seven shots of the contest to take an 18-11 lead midway through the first quarter. Detroit hit four 3-pointers in that stretch, including two by junior guard Rosanna Reynolds (Canton, Mich. / Divine Child). Detroit led 23-16 after the first quarter.

Urbanick scored 14 points in the second quarter, including the last seven in the stanza. She sank a triple with 14 seconds left in the half and then stole the ball and drained a jumper from the free throw line as the buzzer rang ending the second quarter. Detroit had a 43-25 advantage at the break as Urbanick (19 points) had achieved her career-high point total in the first 20 minutes.

Detroit continued to increase its advantage in the second half and led by 19 or more points throughout the final 20 minutes. Detroit's forwards played well in the second 20 minutes as sophomore Chea Taylor (Bellbrook, Ohio) scored all of her career-high eight points in the second half and Cohen added 12 of her 19 points in the third and fourth quarters. The Titans out-scoring Salem International, 24-15, in the third quarter, and 14-10 in the final stanza.

Junior Haleigh Ristovski (Sterling Heights, Mich. / University Liggett), in limited playing time, tied a career-high with six assists. Reynolds added five assists for Detroit against no turnovers. Freshman Brittney Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Nazareth) added nine points off the bench, her third-straight game scoring eight or more points. Every Titan player had at least three rebounds during the game.

Detroit shot above 45 percent for the third-straight contest, hitting 30-of-64 shots (46.9 percent). The Titans made 11 triples, as four players had multiple treys on the afternoon. The Titans also out-rebounded Salem International with a season-high 50 rebounds. The Tigers finished with 39 boards. Detroit also had the edge in assists (22-9), blocks (5-1) and bench scoring (29-15).

Samantha Aiken scored 20 points to lead Salem International (0-8).

Titan News & Notes
• Detroit's last three-game win streak came during the WBI championship run in March 2013.
• Detroit and Salem International were meeting for the first time during the regular season. The Titans defeated the Tigers, 85-61, in an exhibition game during the 2014-15 season. 
• Urbanick's previous career-high was 17 points, done most recently this season against Michigan. The 24 points is the most points in a single game this season by a Titan player. Urbanick has scored in double figures in every game but one this year.
• The 11 made triples were the most since Detroit made 12 3-pointers in its season-opener vs. Bradley.
Haleigh Ristovski tied her career-high in assists. She also had six assists vs. Madonna on Dec. 8, 2014.
Lola Ristovski's five steals and four blocks were both single-game highs for Detroit this season.
• Detroit improved to 3-2 at home in games played at Calihan Hall this year.
• The Titans have four players averaging in double figures following the win: Reynolds (16.9), Urbanick (15.0), Cohen (10.3) and Haleigh Ristovski (10.1).
• The points (81), assists (22) and steals (9) were all season-highs for the Titans.

Detroit returns to the hardcourt on Wednesday, hosting IPFW for a 5 p.m. contest at Calihan Hall. The game wraps up the four-game homestand and is the opener of a doubleheader with the Detroit men's basketball team, who hosts Toledo for Star Wars Night.
