DETROIT (2/14/2015) --
Senior Ellisha Crosby netted a team and season-high 25 points and a valiant second-half rally had the Titans thinking another come-from-behind win, but Youngstown State was able to hold off the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team, 70-65, on Saturday afternoon in Calihan Hall.

The game was part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day as the annual event celebrated its 29th season of bringing attention to the success of Title IX and the thousands of opportunities it has provided young girls in the United States. Prior to the game, over 100 girls ages 6-12 took part in a number of activities and sports clinics, where student-athletes from UDM's varsity teams provided skill instruction and hands-on demonstrations.

It was Crosby's third 20-point game of the season as she was 10-of-18 from the field and 5-of-10 from three, while posting nine rebounds and three assists. Freshman Darianne Seward had 14 points, three rebounds and two assists and redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds ended with 10 points, six boards and two steals.

The Titans (9-14, 4-6 HL) trailed by 14 in the second half, 49-35, at the 13:43 mark when the red, white and blue made a move for the comeback victory with a 10-0 run.

Seward and sophomore Haleigh Ristovski had two-straight layups and then Crosby and Seward connected from three-point territory to pull Detroit within four, 49-45, with 8:28 left.

Youngstown State (17-7, 6-5 HL) would end that run with a three and push its advantage back to double-digits, 58-47, with 4:39 left. YSU also led by 11, 60-49, with just under four minutes when the Titans made one last charge for the win.

Seward began the rally with a three-point play and then after a defensive rebound, she went inside for two more. Later on, Crosby's fifth trey of the game had the Titans down by just four, 64-60, with 1:46 remaining.

UDM kept pushing and Reynolds made it a one-possession game, 66-63, hitting a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left, but the Titans couldn't get any closer.

Urbanick tallied eight points and a season-best seven rebounds. Ristovski had four points, three boards and a team-high four assists and freshman Brianne Cohen added two points and two caroms off the bench.

Detroit came out strong with the games first four points as Reynolds and Urbanick had back-to-back baskets. Youngstown State responded with a 21-2 run over eight and a half minutes to jump out in front, 21-6, midway through the period. Cohen ended that with a jumper, but four-straight points by YSU extended the deficit to 17, 25-8, with 7:41 left.

The Titans started to chip away after that and back-to-back buckets by Urbanick and Crosby had them down by just 10, 33-23, at the break.

Both teams didn't shoot great in the first 20 minutes as Detroit was 10-of-30 (33.3%) from the field, while Youngstown State was 13-of-35 (37.1%). Both teams also didn't shoot the three well as UDM was 1-of-10 from behind the arc and the Penguins were just 4-of-18.

Detroit will get ready for the second part of the Metro Series as the Titans look for the season sweep of Oakland on Wednesday, Feb. 18. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., at the O'Rena.

Game Notes:
Detroit sill leads the all-time series, 20-16… The Titans are now 3-6 all-time on Valentine's Day and 2-3 at home… UDM is also 0-2 against Youngstown State on Valentine's Day… Crosby now has six 20-point games in her career at Detroit, which spans just 31 games… She also had five 3-pointers at Toledo… Seward scored in double digits for the 17th time this season…
