Claudia Eustaquio recorded her first career shutout and classmate
Molly Kane headed home the game-winner, the first goal of her career, in the 81
st minute to lead the Titans to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Eastern Michigan University on Thursday afternoon from Titan Field.
With the win, Detroit improves to 3-4 overall, while EMU falls to 2-4-1 with the defeat. The victory also improves Detroit's record to 3-1 at home in 2015 and gives them 17 total shutouts in the last 23 matches at Titan Field dating back to 2012.
The first half was a very clean affair with scoring chances at a premium. Detroit held the edge in shots (3-2) and corner kicks (3-2), but neither team was able to break through with a goal.
Senior
Alyssa Lotito picked her way through the midfield for an early scoring chance, but her blast sailed just over the crossbar in the 2
nd minute of the game.
Phylisha Drayton also registered a scoring chance for Detroit, but was denied after flying past defenders down the right side and trying to sneak one in the near corner in the 8
th minute.
Through most of the game, each side flexed their defensive muscles as the back lines clogged up passing and shooting lanes. Detroit gradually picked up offensive momentum in the second half and finished the second frame with advantages of 8-3 in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks.
Nearing the end of regulation, Detroit was fouled in the offensive zone to set up the always-dangerous
Alyssa Lotito with a free kick from 25 yards out. Lotito sent a curving ball to the back post, where Kane climbed the ladder and connected with a header that reached the back of the net in the 81
st minute.
Kane's goal gave Detroit a 1-0 lead and Eustaquio, who had to make one last save to preserve the shutout, secured the result.
Eustaquio picked up the win after making three saves in her first career victory, while Kane's first career goal marked the only score of the match.
Lotito led the team with three total shots and added an assist, giving her 16 career assists. With the helper, she inches closer to Mary Parker for 7
th all-time in Detroit history with 17 assists.

Carley Rice and sophomore
Phylisha Drayton each recorded two shots in the win, with each recording a shot on goal as well.
Detroit finished the match with advantages in shots (11-5), shots on goal (4-3) and corner kicks (7-3).
The match was the Titans' last non-conference game before the start of Horizon League play, where they open up against Green Bay on Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. from Titan Field.
