ANN ARBOR, Mich. (9/16/2015) -- Down go the Wolverines.
For the first time in program history on Wednesday night, the University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer team defeated the University of Michigan in a 2-1 triumph at U-M Soccer Stadium. Detroit took a 2-0 lead early in the second half and made it last down the stretch, earning the victory over the Wolverines for the first time since the series began in 2000.
Tyler Moorman scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season, while senior
Jason Leslie added the game-winning goal in the 61st minute off a header. Senior goalkeeper
Nathan Steinwascher earned the victory in net, facing 16 shots overall and making six stops in goal.
It's the third straight win for Detroit (3-2-2). The Titans have played the Wolverines tough for the past two seasons, after also tying with U-M during their 2014 meeting in Ann Arbor.

Jason LeslieHow It Happened• The Titans scored on their first shot of the game in the 11th minute as junior
Tyler Moorman and sophomore
Spiro Pliakos had a nice combination in front of the box. Moorman passed to Spiro, who flicked a pass between the defense and to a striding Moorman, who went lower left and past the goalkeeper for the goal.
• Michigan had six corners and six shots in the first half, but Detroit was able to fend off each Wolverine attempt on net. Michigan didn't have a strong look on goal in the first 45 minutes.
• Detroit made the game 2-0 in the second half as senior
Alex Mendonca perfectly set up classmate
Jason Leslie near the far post with a deep cross. Leslie hit a header to the corner of the goal that missed the goalkeeper's reach, hit the crossbar and went over the goal line. Leslie's second goal of the season put the Titans up 2-0 in the 61st minute.
• Michigan would score off a penalty kick just minutes later after a Detroit foul set up Michigan's Will Mellors-Blair for a PK. Mellors-Blair beat Steinwascher to the corner of the net to cut the Detroit lead to 2-1.
• Michigan continued its offensive pressure down a goal late in the second half, but the Detroit defense stood strong. Steinwascher made a great save in the box with just over one minute remaining as Michigan's Francis Atuahene was barreling in on goal.
• The Wolverines had one more look on goal in the final minute, but Detroit was able to clear the ball away several times and in the final 10 seconds kicked it away to clinch the victory.
Leading the Titans• Moorman scored his team-leading fourth goal of the year. He also had three shots to lead the team.
• Pliakos added his fourth assist of the season to lead the squad. It was his fourth straight match with an assist.
• Leslie scored the game-winning goal for the Titans in the 61st minute. It was his second goal in as many matches.
• Mendonca tallied his second assist of the season. He entered the season with two career assists.

• It was the first win for Detroit in 13 tries against the Wolverines. The Titans tied the Wolverines in double-overtime in 2014. The series started in 2000.

Detroit will be honored for its share of the 2014 Horizon League regular-season title prior to its match against the Crusaders. The Titans went 6-2 in HL play last season, earning 18 points to share the league crown.
